Apple swipes ridiculousness, to hell with them

October 28th, 2011
Its no secret Apple likes to sue to win its corporate battles, but the latest patent suit reaches epic levels of crazy. They filed for, and were actually awarded, a patent for slide to unlock on touch devices. I don't even know where to begin on how wrong this development is. This patent should have never been awarded, mainly because Apple isn't the first to offer this feature. Hell I remember gesturing to unlock my old Palm Pilot from the 1990's. So in that sense I guess there is a saving grace because the first time they try to enforce the patent it will be ruled invalid since its easy to prove the technology was in place before Apple offered… Read More

Bad drivers in Buffalo (and wooo new site layout)

October 21st, 2011
Commemorating the new site design and removal of my arbitrary beta tag with a new blog post. Apparently the thing to do as of late in my area is to drive cars into buildings. Not such a laughing matter really since it has resulted in fatalities, but the frequency that its happening is just nuts. By my count we're up to 16 incidents in 8 weeks. Yes, sixteen. Begs to question...what the hell is going on? Its not even winter. There's no ice on the road, no blinding rain, no insane traffic. Most of these incidents are in parking lots, not some high speed… Read More

Chewy Brewery Tour: Vol. 1 – Edmund Fitzgerald & Clif Oatmeal Raisin Walnut

May 24th, 2010
This is the first official Chewy Brewery Tour blog post, the premier! I'm kicking it off with an unusual choice: A raised eyebrow or "wtf" at this point would be completely acceptable, but stay with me on this. Read More

Chewy Brewery Tour: The prelude

May 24th, 2010
During a recent fishing trip one of my brother-in-laws let me snag a Clif Bar from him.  I'd never had a Clif Bar before, of any flavor, and as I said this was during a fishing trip so it goes without saying that there was beer in the cooler.  I was shocked on how well the two paired together (I may have been a little drunk at the time so drunk-shocked is like sober-startled).  Once I was home I grabbed a few more flavors and realized that there were even better matches to be found.  After a few twitters showed there was some interest in this I resolved to blog my findings. It may not be the most healthy coupling, and of course this is intended… Read More

Where an adult can be a kid

October 7th, 2009
About 6 months ago Consumer’s opened a new beer store about a mile from our house. The place is simply amazing. Hundreds of different beers available in bottles, micro brews, craft beers, seasonal offerings, plus 12 taps with constantly changing kegs to fill growlers. I can’t help but smile and just wander the place every time I go in. Its literally like being a kid in a candy store again. I even mentioned this feeling to Karli and those words to Karli in the car on the way there, only to hear them verbatim from another gentleman inside the store.
I started to think though; I’ve felt this glee before. The very first one I can recall… Read More

The Cinematic Experience

July 23rd, 2009
I've always enjoyed movies, as far back as I can remember. Spend any amount of time around me and you'll quickly learn this as I quote movies ad nauseum. Of course "as far back as I can remember" means features like Inner Space, Back to the Future, and The Care Bear movie in a theater that was modest for the 1980's. As years went on I still went to movies, but VHS, microwave popcorn, and Cheez-Whiz were growing strong so like alot of people I started watching movies from the convenience (an inexpense) of home. Its just not the same though, and I crave that theater viewing even more now. A perfect example, I was fortunate enough to win advanced… Read More

Deadpool, Man of the Hour

July 16th, 2009
Just a quick post as I finish catching up on my comics. Dark Reign is turning out to be a fairly entertaining offering from Marvel. The Iron Man arc is kinda dry and slow but I have hopes for it. But what has been topping my charts so to speak is Deadpool. Daniel Way's writing and Paco Medina's style are just rocking this title. Cable & Deadpool was a good read, very entertaining, but this new run of Deadpool is a beast unto itself. The latest issues (10 and 11) are complete win. I could copy every page and put them on my walls as art, each panel is hilarious and brilliantly drawn in its own right.
I think my only gripe with Dark Reign… Read More

WoW…not so much

July 1st, 2009
So I tempted the bitter mistress known as World of Warcraft, and I have walked away unscathed. Lenny gave me a code for a free 10 day trial, which then linked our accounts so if we were playing grouped together we both would get like a 50 percent bonus to the XP we earned. That was kinda cool, leveled like crazy one night. And I have to admit the voice chatting in Ventrillo was handy. But after a week I noticed a very familiar pattern. Hack random monsters, run quest for random NPC, loot, sell loot, die, recover body, buy slightly less crappy gear, run your ass across the map, repeat. Hey…where I have done all this before? Oh yeah, for three… Read More

Force Fields, Shotguns, and Troopers

May 25th, 2009
Its been an eventful, fun, and painful 48 hours.
Started Saturday morning with 18 holes of golf, with a cart, for a measly $30. This course has the winning solution, drop prices when everyone else is raising them to cope with "tough economy" and people will flock to you. To put it in perspective the last time I golfed it cost me $40 for 9 holes with a cart. After flogging it was back to the house for great food, beer, and bag-o. So far so good, right? Once everyone was stuffed we moved all the food back into the house, the guys decided to hang out outside under the tent for another beer. Then the thunderstorm rolled in. Given the fact… Read More

Big kids need toys too

May 20th, 2009
The boys’ last report cards were good (in one case a vast improvement from his prior report card), so we got them Nerf guns as a reward. Logic being outside toys for summer versus video games or inside stuff. Ryan picked out one that shoots green balls, and Connor and Jacob got ones that shoot foam darts, N-Strike CS-6 Recons. Well the grown-ups also got their hands on them, Karli quickly found the joy of firing at squealing boys that are using each other as human shields. It took me all of 24 hours before I went out and got my own, and quickly discovered the massive community… Read More
